Meet Wendy

I began piano at age 5 and have had 17 years of lessons. In 1988,  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Heidelberg University in Ohio. I studied Musicology at UCLA from 1989 to 1991. After joining the MTAC, Music Teachers Association of California, I began teaching piano in 1994. I have a home studio for private instruction.

Music has been part of my whole life. The gift of music is forever. I bring this gift to every lesson taught. I will teach piano to people of all ages. Call me for a free trial lesson!!! Now offering online instruction through Zoom!

For musicians, this is an easy question. Piano notation is used in every aspect of music. Every instrument, including voice, uses piano notation. It is the best starting point for any musician. Music has also been proven to increase focus and reduce stress.

The goal of my piano teaching is not to produce little Mozarts. Most people take piano lessons to play music they enjoy and can relax with. I combine traditional teaching methods with the added fun of learning songs that are interesting to each individual student. I do teach scales, theory, chords, technique, and composition while making music a lifelong passion.

Piano Instruction for Adults

Did You Know?

The piano originated in early 18th-century Italy when Bartolomeo Cristofori invented an instrument capable of dynamic expression—playing softly or loudly by touch. It evolved from the harpsichord, gradually gaining a stronger frame, expanded keyboard, and richer tone. During the Classical and Romantic eras, composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin elevated the piano as a central musical voice. Today, acoustic and digital pianos remain essential in classical, jazz, and popular music worldwide. Its influence spans education, performance, composition, and cultural history.

Famous Piano Players

Famous pianists across history and modern times include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Austria), Ludwig van Beethoven (Germany), Frédéric Chopin (Poland), Franz Liszt (Hungary), and Claude Debussy (France). In jazz, legends include Duke Ellington (United States), Thelonious Monk (United States), and Bill Evans (United States). Modern and contemporary pianists include Vladimir Horowitz (Ukraine/United States), Lang Lang (China), Martha Argerich (Argentina), and Herbie Hancock (United States), each shaping global piano culture.

Getting Started May Be The Hardest Part!

Getting started with piano lessons is often the hardest part because it requires stepping outside your comfort zone and committing to something new. Beginners must learn unfamiliar concepts such as reading music, coordinating both hands, proper posture, and developing finger strength—all at once. Progress can feel slow in the beginning, which may discourage new students. Finding time to practice consistently and staying motivated without immediate results adds to the challenge. However, once the foundation is built and small wins appear, learning the piano becomes more enjoyable and rewarding over time.
